WHAT IS WORLD LAUGHTER DAY?
The first World Laughter Day was held on January 11, 1998, in Mumbai, India by the creator of Laughter Yoga, Dr Madan Kataria, with the objective of laughing for World Peace. A huge success, the date was later changed to the first Sunday in May and has been observed every year since. Laughter Clubs in over 60 countries now laugh at around 2 o’clock local time, sending a massive wave of laughter around the globe! Here in the UK, Laughter Network members will be holding local events to which everyone is welcome.
Laughter unites us and is universally understood – it connects people, breaks down barriers and promotes positivity, better health and happiness.
WHAT GOES ON?
World Laughter Day celebrations will include a laughter session with simple, inclusive and very fun laughter exercises, and possibly a picnic, games, music or face-painting. Everyone is welcome to attend regardless of age, experience, fitness or mobility, and the more the merrier!
WHY A LAUGHTER DAY?
With busy schedules, pressures, demands, and sometimes very stressful lives, laughter often takes a back seat. This is a day when everyone can make laughing their top priority, giving our own minds, bodies and health a massive boost, helping us get more laughter into our lives and sending a very positive dose of laughter energy out into the world!
